The Customer
A classic, but contemporary design was the most important consideration for property owners, Jane and Iain Light. “We were looking for good quality, contemporary fittings for our new bathrooms, but it was crucial that they were both in keeping with the age of our home and suited the style and tone of the other rooms,” explains Jane.
The Design
For her own bathroom, Jane combined traditional touches with a contemporary finish to create a room with timeless appeal. The walnut vanity unit and matching mirror and light fittings were chosen for their classic look, while the minimally designed quintesse (five-sided) shower enclosure was selected to ensure the best balance of showering space versus activity space and access into the room. Warm sandstone tiles were installed to complement the walnut vanity unit against darker floor tiles which extend up the wall opposite the window to create a feeling of depth.
In Mr Light’s bathroom, a more masculine environment was created with concrete and graphite coloured tiling and copper coloured glass panels. For functionality, a separate bath and shower was a key consideration. To achieve this, the window ingos were re-profiled to give more depth across the available corner and a quintesse shower enclosure installed. An angled bath was selected to complement the design of the five-sided shower.
The Results
With their soft colour palette, clean lines and clever use of space, Jane and Iain’s bathrooms combine contemporary luxury with classic design. Each has its own character, the perfect ‘his and hers’ spaces, but both offer a serene and calming environment for bathing. Of her completed project, Jane says, “We are delighted with the results. The tiling and fixtures are of the highest quality and beautiful to look at. Both rooms are a pleasure to look after!”
