Customer name: Morrison
Location: Kintore
The Morrison family came to Laings to transform their kitchen and create a brighter, more inviting space for their home in Kintore. They envisioned incorporating elements of walnut while maintaining the existing bank and peninsula layout. The family, comprising two adults and two children, emphasised the need for a functional breakfast bar with seating for four to allow more family time together during meals.
Open to experimenting with colours, though unsure which to choose, they were not averse to using a variety of materials, making the design process enjoyable and creative. Given their passion for cooking and baking, high-spec appliances were essential. The kitchen was to be an expansive, open-plan area, optimising the layout to encourage more frequent use of the breakfast bar.
The Morrisons were considering proposals from multiple companies, which heightened the competitive aspect of the project. The bespoke bi-fold doors required customisation to fit the unique specifications of the kitchen. Additionally, the design had to accommodate a feature peninsula tailored to the room's layout, and a custom media unit was to be seamlessly integrated into the design. These bespoke elements added complexity to the project, requiring careful planning and execution.
The collaboration between the Morrison family and Laings designer, Charlotte, was intricate, focusing on harmonising existing elements with new design aspects. The family wished to retain their blue chairs and sofa, necessitating careful consideration in the design phase to ensure coherence.
The design process was marked by close attention to detail, resulting in visuals that closely mirrored the final outcome. The designer's ability to integrate the family's existing furniture into the new kitchen space was a testament to their skill and flexibility.
The final design exceeded the Morrison family's expectations. The kitchen not only met but surpassed the initial brief, providing significantly more worktop space. The incorporation of high-spec appliances catered to their culinary needs, while the bespoke elements, including the bi-fold doors and media unit, added a unique touch to the space.
The successful design of the peninsula and the careful integration of the existing blue furniture pieces culminated in a cohesive and functional kitchen. The Morrison family was exceptionally pleased with the result, which led to a brighter, more open space that enhanced their family time together.
“From the very first time we spoke with Charlotte in the showroom, we knew that we could work together to get the kitchen we hoped for.
