Laings are delighted to be one of the sponsors of the Primary 7 class at Kellands School in Inverurie as they take part in the Greenpower challenge.
The Greenpower Education Trust has set up the challenge to encourage younger ages to think about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), but to also get young people to start thinking about sustainability and how we take care of the environment. As a project, the P7’s created a design for a Kit car which will be taking part in a series of races across the Northeast beginning with a race at Alford which took place on the 9th of June.
Their design was based around the ocean and so they added sparkling laminate to the front of the car in order to reflect the sea floor, and added other accessories such as buoys and fishing net they were supplied also.
The children didn’t stop there, they have been working hard at building a website to support the project, getting matching kits for attending the races, and reaching out to local businesses in order to gain sponsorships.
Carrie Doig, who is the teacher at Kellands School supporting the Primary 7’s has been keeping us updated, and we’re pleased to hear how well the children are doing, achieving a fantastic 3rd place at the initial race, and winning an award for ‘best green bodywork,’ at the event in Alford.
Laings are proud to be supporting our local Primary School with their green endeavors. As a business we are taking the first steps on our journey to become net zero by 2045. The Greenpower challenge is a fantastic opportunity to encourage younger generations to start thinking about the role they play in influencing environmental change.
